Who is Soo Beng?
Soo Beng has called Sydney, Australia home for over 37 years, bringing with him a lifelong passion for art that began in Malaysia and has never stopped growing.
Entirely self-taught, he built a career as a graphic designer — but the canvas always called him back. Working across acrylics, batik, and watercolour, his paintings reflect a deep curiosity and a willingness to keep exploring new techniques.
His acrylic work is known for its bold, textured rock scenes, while his more recent journey into ink wash watercolour has opened a new creative chapter. The technique — used to capture the soft, flowing fur of animals — is as demanding as it is rewarding. Each brushstroke is irreversible, making every finished piece a quiet triumph of patience and instinct.
His work has reached beyond gallery walls: earlier paintings were chosen as stamp illustrations to commemorate the opening of a dam in Malaysia, and a rice plantation scene was presented as a gift to the late Malaysian Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman.
Every piece is an original — painted by hand, one brushstroke at a time.
